Welcome back ladies,

Let, me tell you, the Power of Purpose was one unwieldy thing for me to wrestle with! I think we all know what purpose means but let me state it anyway. Purpose is defined as 1. the reason for which something exists, 2. an intended or desired result; end; aim; goal.

Washington Irving summed it up when he said, “Great minds have purposes, and others have wishes.”

The tricky thing about purpose, mom, is you can’t assign purpose to anyone. This is one character quality your daughter will have to discern for herself. So what is your role in helping your daughter see the Power of Purpose? I firmly believe mothers have a role in guiding their daughters in this area. As a mom who is involved with your daughter, you see glimpses and glimmers of the way our Heavenly Father created her. You can see your tendencies, strengths, and proclivity toward certain areas. Our assignment is to point these tendencies out to our daughters.

I can clearly, to this day, remember one comment made by my father. He gave it to me after I had visited my elderly grandparents and great aunt. (I was in the habit of seeing them about once or twice a week. They were such a joy for me!) He said, “Shelley, I can see h you have a knack for caring about people.” This observation, I still remember today. His words resonated with my soul and the vibrations of it can be felt in my life to this day. I would say his insight has become a discernible watermark that can be traced upon the pages of my life and through the years. My father wisely didn’t assign me my life’s purpose…but through thoughtful observation, he put words to it.

This week, the study in Chapter 13 of  Beautiful Girlhood and The Companion Guide to Beautiful Girlhood is about the power of having a purpose in life, what is a worthy purpose, and why success is dependent on purpose. I urge you to earnestly pray about how you can positively influence your daughter in this area. Ask the Lord to give you insight into how your daughter was made to glorify Him!

Purposing to bring Him glory!

Each and every believer’s life becomes a unique picture of the glory of God in both time and eternity, but only the spiritually mature believer’s life glorifies God by receiving the highest and best that God has prepared for him. How does each of these verses affect your view of what your purpose in life is?

  • Romans 8:29-30
  • Romans 9:21-24
  • Rom 6:1-11
  • 1 Corinthians 5: 4-21

Memory Verse

2 Corinthians 5:9

“So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it.”

Post and Ponder

  • “We all possess the thunder of pure fury and the calm breeze of tranquility.  If it wasn’t for tomorrow, how much would we get done today?  Whatever your purpose… embrace it completely.  Get lost in the clouds every now and then so you never lose sight of God’s wonder. “  ~Paul Vitale
  • I know I possess the thunder of fury, but the calm breeze of tranquility rarely blows in my life. Whatever climate I experience in my life I know I am striving to embrace God’s purpose for me fully! How about you, where are you at in this process?
