A person’s disposition is: “the natural or prevailing aspect of one’s mind as shown in behavior and in relationships with others.”
It is often thought that one cannot change her disposition any more than a leopard can change its spots. It is what it is! Good or bad. But the Bible says this is not true. God’s Word and presence in our life changes our disposition.
In the eighth chapter of Beautiful Girlhood and The Companion Guide to Beautiful Girlhood, through questions, activities, and discussion, you and your daughter will be examining what a Sunny Disposition looks like and the many benefits of having one! As you mull this concept over, you may realize that this is indeed an area that needs to be worked on in your daughter’s life…and maybe even in your own!
“Mirror, mirror on the wall. Who’s the sunniest of them all?” Let’s look into the mirror of God’s Word for a moment. In Colossians 3:5-14 we have a before and after picture of what our nature (disposition) is like.
Before Jesus: Our dispositions are naturally gloomy and downright ugly! (Colossians 3:5-11).
After Jesus: Our picture changes dramatically! The makeover begins. We are instructed to take this unlovely disposition off like a worn-out garment and, in exchange, we are to “put on” the new disposition that the Lord gives us! (Colossians 3:12-14 also see Ephesians 4:17-32)
This week I want you to check with the mirror of God’s Word. Where are you and your daughter at in this miraculous makeover? The world’s approach to “disposition change” is to acquire more education. More books, more advice, more information on why we are the way we are. But God’s approach to a Son reflecting Disposition is for us to turn away from our will and yield to His while putting on the new disposition “which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.”
Keep Sunny!

Activities
- Read Chapter 8 in Beautiful Girlhood and The Companion Guide to Beautiful Girlhood.
- Feel like taking a good long look into the mirror of God’s word? Read Colossians 3:5-14 and make two lists. One for the old nature’s traits and the other for the new nature traits listed here. Which side do you resemble? Don’t stop there. Ask God to conform you to His likeness!
